Our History

A family history. Tradition and excellence.

A family history that is the history of an entire land: the Province of Córdoba and the olive grove. We are the fourth generation of a family dedicated to the production of extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality.

We started working in La Rambla in the second half of the 19th century and currently sell top quality olive oil from Montilla. An early harvest oil made with the best olives harvested in the Subbética Cordobesa region. We started working in La Rambla in 1891 in the family mill of my great-grandfather Juan José Ortiz Garrido, a farmer and businessman. Later, in the 20th century, my great-uncle Juan José Ortiz Arroyo, also a very meticulous and expert farmer, bought another mill in La Rambla where he produced olive oil for many decades. Finally, my grandfather Juanito Ortiz continued the family tradition and ran the mill until the late 1970s, where I grew up and learned to love this work.

I can say that my great-grandfather was a farmer ahead of his time, and that back in 1912, one of his essays and experiments with fertilizers in the olive grove on one of his farms was published in a nationally circulated agricultural magazine.

Our oil

Molino Juanito Ortiz carries out a meticulous selection process of the early olive, green in color, close to ripening, in the traditional olive grove of the Subbética region. From the field to the mill in the shortest possible time, maintaining the freshness of the fruit and all its quality.

Made from Hojiblanca and Picual varieties. Green tones stand out with notes of leaf, aromatic herbs and other fruits such as citrus, tomatoes, apple, banana and green almond. On the palate, it is initially sweet, with clearly noticeable bitter and spicy notes.

We begin harvesting the olive grove when the olives are close to turning color, and we have carried out analyses to check the optimal state of the maturity index.

Because the harvest is done manually in the Subbética mountains and the temperatures in November are cooler, and we also transport the fruit quickly to the mill, we ensure that the juice we extract mechanically and cold is a delicacy with unparalleled properties and flavor.

THE EARTH

The province of Córdoba is world-renowned for its abundant and excellent olive oil production. The Subbética Cordobesa region , in particular, produces the best olive oil in the world thanks to the manual harvesting of olives from our olive groves located in a natural mountain setting, where winters are frigid and summers are hot. This creates unique characteristics in the fruit, which ripens slowly, resulting in a lower weight but excellent fatty acids.

THE GOLDEN 'MOLINERO'

Behind every true project there are always people. This photograph of my grandfather, Juanito Ortiz, the miller of Oro , is the seed that germinated in me and that today lives on in every bottle of our oil. It is a reminder that tradition and heart are the true gold of the Subbética.
